We counted grocery bags that were brought in to school. There were 3140 bags. Counting groups of 10 was our first step. Then we put 10 of those bags into a big bag to make 100. Then we counted the bags of 100 into an even bigger bag and got the total. That was a lot of bags.
We walked all over town. The walk was very big. We had stamina. We saw the Stone Angel that Margaret Laurence wrote about. She was a famous author from Neepawa. We saw a grave of a baby who was only two months old. It was a long time ago when there was not enough good medicine or maybe food. We saw the head stone of the principal that the school was named after. She died in 1991. We we also learned that the M in HMK stands for Maria. We climbed on trees. We saw two bird nests in one tree and a wasp nest in another. We saw Macey’s house and dropped off two bags of garbage that we picked up on the way. We saw Sam’s house. We saw Laurice’s house. We saw Ella’s old house. We saw where the fish stayed for the summer. We saw the train tracks. We saw deer tracks. We saw snow at the rink so we threw snowballs and climbed on it. We had a story and a snack in the cemetery. We saw the compost site where leaves, and grass turn into soil. Trees and branches get chipped to use on flower beds and around tree. We walked for lots of hours. It was a great afternoon. |
Mrs. MacPhee
I've been teaching for over 20 years in three different provinces. Most of those years have been in the primary grades. I love teaching grade one because of the dramatic change I get to see in the children from the beginning of the year to the end of June. It truly is amazing! Archives
