When we got to school on Wednesday we found spilled green paint and footprints all over the classroom! There were also chunks of gold scattered around. We knew it wasn't ours so we collected it and Katie-Rae wrote a letter to the Leprechaun. On Thursday morning there was a pot of gold and green coins with a thank you note for us! We learned that if we return something that isn't ours we might get something back. We felt proud and respectful.

Have you ever forgotten which egg was boiled and which egg was not? We spun a hard boiled egg and a raw egg. We saw that the boiled egg spun fast but the raw egg spun slowly. That is because the raw egg is a liquid but the boiled egg is a solid.
Our first class post. Today we listened to a story called Clever Tom and the Leprechaun. We played some new games about leprechauns. They were really mostly math games. We wrote a report card about ourselves.
We created Tomorrow's Alphabet after reading a book by the same Title, written by George Shannon and illustrated by Donald Crews. We also spent quite a bit of time studying Eric Carle's illustrations. We painted papers using different techniques to create texture. The pages were scanned and then we opened them with the computer program paint. We copied and pasted pieces into a SMART notebook file and then the fun began. The children got amazingly good at these quite complicated steps.
It is hard to believe that we have already reached March, the end of second term. I have wanted to start a blog for over a year now so I am really excited and hopeful that we can make this work. I know the boys and girls will have lots to say and I hope that parents will enjoy reading about our days. Now, if I can just start our writing time early enough in that last block of the day so that we aren't rushed by bus time pressures.
We have been working hard to finish a book called Tomorrow's Alphabet. Hopefully we can post it soon! |
Mrs. MacPhee
I've been teaching for over 20 years in three different provinces. Most of those years have been in the primary grades. I love teaching grade one because of the dramatic change I get to see in the children from the beginning of the year to the end of June. It truly is amazing! Archives
